Kastri in northern Syros

At a distance of about 45 minutes from Chalandriani, a prehistoric settlement
of the late Proto-Cycladic II period was discovered, covering an area of 3.5 to 5
acres. In this area, excavations have unearthed a cemetery with around 600
graves, as well as invaluable finds that show that ceramics, stone and
metalwork developed in the area. The various vessels, jewelry and household
items also found during excavations in the wider area show that this was a
highly developed settlement. The two archaeological sites of Chalandriani and
Kastri are connected by a long but difficult path that is worth following, as it
leads to the depths of history.
